Baby juice-o

If juice was wine my baby would be a drunk.

After spending the last 6 months resolutely refusing to give Frog anything other than water or milk, I’ve recently given in to the pull of the juice. And Frog’s taken to it like a duck to water, or a disco queen to sambucca.

I had my reasons for withholding the sweet stuff. As a toddler, my dentist nicknamed me the “orange squash junkie”. I don’t want to go into too much detail, suffice to say I had an unhealthy love affair with squash of the orange variety. So I ended up with few teeth and lots of fillings. I still can’t touch the stuff.

But then I was sent an email.

The people at Peter Rabbit Organics asked if I’d like to review some of their Little Juices range. “They’re great for busy parents who want to feed their children healthy juices on-the-go this summer” they told me.

“What the heck” I thought. I’ll give them a go.

And I’m glad I did. These juices are far removed from the orange squash I was addicted to as a child. They’re diluted, with no added sugar, preservatives or artificial ingredients. They come in three flavours; Apple and Grape, Blackcurrant and Apple and Pear. Luckily, Frog likes apples.

The thing I liked about these juices is the fact they’re very diluted. For me, they taste of little more than flavoured water. But for Frog, it was like the door to Apple Nirvana itself had opened. As a baby who’s not used to tasting fruit juice, these were a good option for Frog because they weren’t too strong. And the diluted nature of the juice was also good for a former orange squash junkie, paranoid she’s passed her addictive tendancies on to her child.

The size of the cartons is also a plus. They’re small enough to pop in your pocket or the side section of a change bag and large enough to keep thirst at bay for a while. See what I mean?

This is also rather handy for owners of fridges that are vertically challenged, i.e. they fit in a tiny fridge and leave enough room for a couple of bottles of wine too. Always a bonus.

But the thing I love most about these cartons? The thing that really got me excited (and yes, I am aware this reveals a certain lack of excitement in my life – you have to make the most of the little things) is the brilliant little straw that they come with. This is a particular draw for Frog, who has recently mastered the art of straw-drinking and is pretty pleased with her new skill:

I received no payment for this post, but I did receive 3 cartons of juice to review. And they were really rather good.

My daughter is 3 and she loves Ribena squash. i dilute it with a lot of water. she drinks alot of milk and plain water too. that looks good and sounds healthier. Thanks for the info. time for me to intro something else.

  4. What a good idea to dilute the juices. Seriously, having seen kids spinning on the sugar in regular fruit juices…

Quite cute that the packaging looks like a carton of tea!

  5. She is gorgeous! Those eyes are amazing!
