Life is soon to get a whole lot easier. You see, an unwanted visitor will soon be making a disappearance. For another year at least.
This visitor makes me stressed, causes arguments between myself and my husband and winds up my daughter a treat.
This visitor picks one moment during Every. Single. Day to wave their hands and shout “Cooeeee, I’m over here!” before taunting my soon-to-be 18 month old with a big fat raspberry. This causes tears and shouts of indignation on her part, followed by angry grumbles from the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine and protective snarls from me. I’ve searched high and low. In cupboards and under sofas, at the end of the garden and inside countless photo albums. But I still can’t find it. Christmas is keeping a very low profile.
It’s not that I haven’t entered into the festive spirit. I’ve been belting out Christmas tunes with the best of them. I’ve hung mistletoe and put up a tree and even spent two hours one evening sticking cloves into oranges.
But still, Christmas is nowhere to be seen. Continue reading
Is it just me, or is Christmas shopping a bit of a pain? I mean, you buy something gorgeous, spend ages wrapping it and then… Well, then you have to go and give it away.
I’ve browsed the internet for most of my present purchases this year, in the failed hope that it will bestow me with some kind of restraint and stop me buying myself a treat every time I buy something for someone else. I couldn’t be more wrong. Every time I’ve gone online, I’ve seen something that I want for myself. I’m a terrible giver.
Which is why it’s so surprising that I’m now giving you a present. Yes you. Continue reading
I know this is against all the rules of animal ownership. Having recently covered a story on huge demand for places at a nearby animal shelter, I’m aware people can be fickle when it comes to new pets at this time of year.
But I’m going to do it anyway. I’m giving my daughter a pet for Christmas. Continue reading
We’re a little groggy today. A late night and a huge adventure to the Winter Wonderland in London’s Hyde Park has left us barely awake this morning.
But it was worth it.
This time last year, I was excited – desperately so. I was counting down the days until I could enjoy all sorts of festive treats with my new baby.
But while it was our first Christmas as a three instead of a two, it turned out to be pretty uneventful. No trips to see Christmas lights being turned on, no carols, no Christmas markets. And certainly no Winter Wonderland. There’s only so much five month old babies are interested in, you see. And anything that doesn’t involve milk and sleep wasn’t met with a huge amount of enthusiasm. Continue reading
As if I haven’t got enough on my plate – what with juggling work and a 16 month old diva – I’ve decided to make my own Advent Calender.
It’s all part of my ongoing quest to be the perfect mother and assuage the constant Mother Guilt Complex that nags at the back of my mind.
The thing is, I’m a bit crap at making things. Take this homemade peg bag for example: Continue reading
